Level 2 Award in Awareness of Dementia

The Level 2 Certificate in Awareness of Dementia qualification provides the opportunity for learners to develop knowledge and skills required when providing positive care for people with dementia and their families. It is aligned to the National Dementia Strategy.

This qualification is ideal for anyone who wants to work in social care in either local authority or private care environments. It is also suitable for qualified practitioners who have not covered dementia care in previous qualifications.

Who is the Level 2 Award in Awareness of Dementia for?

  • Care employers: Organisations seeking to upskill their workforce
  • Current Care or Support Workers: looking to gain a nationally accredited qualification
  • Those new to care: all those who are aspiring to raise awareness of dementia and how to support people living with dementia.

What you'll study (mandatory units)

  • There are 4 mandatory units which must be completed
  • DEM 201 Dementia awareness
  • DEM 202 The person-centred approach to the care and support of individuals with dementia
  • DEM 205 Understand the factors that can influence communication and interaction with individuals who have dementia
  • DEM 207 Understand equality, diversity and inclusion in dementia care

Progression routes

  • NCFE CACHE Level 2 Certificate in Health and Social Care
  • NCFE CACHE Level 2 Extended Diploma in Health and Social Care
  • NCFE CACHE Level 3 Award in Awareness of Dementia
  • Level 2 apprenticeship standard for Adult Care Worker which contains the NCFE CACHE Level 2 Diploma in Care

Entry requirements

  • Learner must be aged 16 or over
  • No previous qualifications are required
  • Funding may be available for those who meet value-based recruitment requirements
